From the Desk of the Principal

Hanson Park Elementary School is a very special place where all children are nurtured and challenged to do their very best! Our neighborhood school, on the northwest side of Chicago , in the Belmont-Cragin community, serves students from the neighborhood, as well as a Cluster site for our Severe and Profoundly handicapped students from surrounding schools. We foster a “Respect For All” acceptance for all students, parents, staff, and community members.

Currently, we serve 1400 students in Pre-School through Eighth Grade. Our students participate in: music, art, computer technology, library, and physical education classes weekly. We also have an extensive After School Program, providing intervention and enrichment activities for over 350 students. Our sports program includes: volleyball, basketball, track, soccer, and intramurals. This fall our Boys Soccer Team was crowned the Chicago Public Schools City Champions! Our students also participate in: City Science Fair, Spelling Bee, Academic Olympics, History Fair and the Young Authors Competition.

We have an active Parent Advisory Committee and a Bilingual Advisory Committee that meets regularly. We have also initiated Monthly Parent Coffees with the Principal with topics of interest to best meet the needs of our students. We have established a Parent Patrol, with the help of the Chicago Police Department, to ensure safe arrival and dismissal of our students. We welcome our parents and community members to attend our monthly LSC meeting, please fill out a Volunteer application form.

Our students at Hanson Park are a reflection of our parent support and strong classroom teacher performance expectations. This is truly a special family place where care and compassion, and “fun” educational experiences are a daily occurrence!

Sincerely,

Mr. David Belanger,

Principal
